While walking through the lot at work yesterday I spotted this gem.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Back when Chrysler was tied up with Mitsubishi in the Diamond Star Motors days, Dodge sold the Mitsu Mighty Max compact pickup as a captive import. Known as thw Ram 50, it was among the first wave of American-Japanese compact trucks. This particular specimen is a 1987 model, the first year of the second generation and also the first year of it's eventual successor, the Dodge Dakota. This could either be the 2.0L or the 2.6L, but whichever engine it has is paired to a manual transmission. The registration and inspection are both 5 years expired and it had last been registered as a Mitsubishi, so I'm not sure how it has plates on it or what the real deal it, but it's a cool little truck regardless. Actually, looking at the pictures, it may be just a rebadged Mighty Max...like it was from the factory, but not...

Well, I can tell you that that IS a Dodge Ram 50 grille (similar vintage Mighty Maxs had a different grille).

I can also tell you that most, if not all, of the badging is NOT original.

The Ram 50 never had the familiar Ram head badge on the grille, that badge wasn't introduced until the 1994 Dodge Ram was introduced. Instead, it had a RAM 50 badge offset to the right.

The RAM on the side is proper, but was accompanied by either the 50 designation to the right, or a square badge to the left.

The Ram 50 was, if I recall properly, never offered in an LE trim level, that badge was likely sourced from a Dodge Dakota.

Lastly, on the tailgate, the badges are again non-original. The DODGE RAM badge is likely from a fullsize Ram, and the Ram head badge is, again, too modern to be correct.

Mitsubishi should sell a small truck over here again.

Also worth noting, the new "car" next to it is the same height as the old "truck" yet has only about half the glass of the blue DSM.

I figured the Rams heads were non-original and I had a hunch the rest were as well, given the lack of a 50 anywhere on it.

The Charger is indeed a big boy.
